OpenAI's API documentation states that the Sora 2 video models and the Videos API are deprecated and shut down on 2026-09-24; developers were notified on 2026-03-24, and the deprecations page lists no replacement model (OpenAI deprecations, checked 2026-09-12). OpenAI's help center adds that the Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on 2026-04-26 and that Sora data is permanently deleted once any final export window has passed (OpenAI help center, checked 2026-09-12). Until the API cutoff, the API, used directly or through platforms that resell it, is the remaining way to reach Sora 2.
That changes what this comparison is about. A series is produced over weeks and reshot for months: if episode 7 needs a retake after the shutdown, it has to be rendered on another model, which re-draws faces, skin and light from its own training, and the difference shows when shots from both models sit in one episode (see why faces drift).
